AIRLINE CONECTIONS
Small budget airlines are normally point-to-pont carriers and do not offer connecting services, so that if you have chosen an ongoing flight with another airline, you are on your own in obtaining another connecting flight if you miss your booking.
However if you book your ticket through a airline that is a member of the International Airline Association network..(www.iata.org) , the carrier is responsible to arrange new connecting flights and other services.
IATA...... quote..."International Air Transport Association
The Air Transport Association (IATA) represents, leads and serves the airline industry. Its members comprise all major passenger and cargo airlines."
Confirm the staus of your flight booking as regards IATA flight protection, with your travel agent/tour operator for peace of mind.

SKIING HOLIDAYS
Many airlines (inc BA) will not carry passengers who cannot take a full leg brace position( for example a skier with a full leg cast). They quote the Civil Aviation Authority(CAA)'s safety regulations. It is not clear as to whether they will take a passenger who will pay for extra seats, in order to to get into a prone position. A travel insurance broker needs to be consulted to ensure that the travel policy covers any extra cost, which could be considerable. Repatriation policy clauses allso need to be considered.
Confirm the small print of BA's regulations. |

AIR PASSENGER DUTY(APD) - Bad news for airline passengers
The Government is raising the duty on premium aircraft cabins ( which have more leg room) in November . The duty on each seat will rise from £ 80 to £ 150 by the end of 2010.
The Travel Trade have heavily criticised the move . They note that the Government have not said what the increased tax is going to be spent on,even though it masquerades as a device to help the environment. It is full of anomalies. Because of its rules there will be less tax on a flight to Los Angeles than a flight to Barbados, due to the basis of the tax being based on the distance to the destinations capital city, in the case of the USA, New York.
Travel companies are indicating that they will withdraw premium cabins.
The Travel Trade magazines and major airlines and travel tour operators are emphatic in their protests as to the damage this will do to the travel trade
A quotation from a prestigious trade magazine
QUOTE "APD will increase from November 1 and switch to a four-band system based roughly on the distance from London to a destination's capital.
The £40 duty on long-haul economy fares rises to £45 to the US, £50 to the Caribbean and £55 to Singapore. APD on short-haul flights will increase by £1 to £11.
However, it is the further increases planned next November - to £60 to the US, £75 to the Caribbean and £85 beyond - that has united the industry in opposition.
There is fury at a banding system that imposes more tax on a flight to the Caribbean than to the US West Coast or Hawaii, and at the double rate of tax on premium economy seats - the same as on business and first class."

DRINKING WATER ON PLANES
An American study has found that many of the samples taken by the American Environmental Protection Agency on American planes, showed no sign of being treated with a an anti-contamination agent. Indeed many of the samples were found to be contaminated and not fit for drinking !!
In the UK there is no single official authority to regulate the standards of aircraft drinking water, only the local authority at the airport has any responsibility. There has not ben a national survey since 1999.
Be like some aircraft personnel and stick to bottled water, even for cleaning your teeth !! |

That was back in 1633. They survived, and performed the first Oberammergau Passion Play in 1634. Ever since, their descendants have carried out that pledge.
